Short-term Disability Insurance Overview While State employees have accrued sick and vacation time to protect their salary against off-the-job accident and illness, they are not eligible to receive TDI benefits. For greater protection, employees may purchase short-term disability insurance from Aflac or Colonial Life. Short-term disability insurance replaces a portion of your income when you cannot work due to a covered accident off the job or sickness.
